Keeping safety top of mind and reducing reportable injuries are not easy goals to achieve in the construction industry, especially since crews change, work places vary, weather affects performance, and completing projects on time and on budget add pressure to the job. The problem is further complicated by the fact that safety can greatly impact a company’s bottom line, for the penalty for unsafe performance is serious in terms of lost productivity, workers’ compensation claims, higher insurance premium levels and out of pocket deductibles. Customized to Get Results
Tailored to meet the specific needs of HL&J, the SafeRewards program rewards the safety performance of all employees on a monthly basis, using a specially designed Healy
Long & Jevin SafeRewards Card. The card, which is a re-loadable prepaid debit MasterCard® card, is like getting a cash reward, as employees can use it anywhere MasterCard debit cards are accepted.

Designed to Increase Accountability
The design of this incentive program requires everyone to be accountable to each other on the job for safety. Shared accountability, in turn, promotes safer teamwork. Each month, if employees work a minimum of 30 hours a week without a recordable injury, they all get $25 electronically deposited onto their SafetyRewards Card at the end of the following month. If there is a recordable injury, no one receives the bonus. By rewarding people every month, the program uses immediate gratification to keep safety top of mind day to day.

Configured for Ease of Use
The SafeRewards Card program features MAVLink, a web-based real time reporting and processing system that allows cards to be issued and loaded quickly and easily. Reports issued through MAVLink can be accessed securely online, providing HL&J with data that helps with annual budgeting and incentive program management.
